Apocalypse Z: New World Leaves the Canaries

Apocalypse Z: New World

Two years after the events of Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, safety has become luxury in the post-apocalyptic world of Spain. Peace, however, does not mean that survivors have access to all they need. A mission is organized to travel back to mainland Spain in search of vital supplies.

One of the members of the mission, Roberto, has reasons of his own to join the trip, and soon, the mission will get even more complicated than it originally was.

Directed by Carles Torrens, Apocalypse Z: New World premieres worldwide on Prime Video on October 30, 2026.

Canary Islands Refuge

New World starts in a much better situation than the first film. Instead of focusing on characters trying to escape the collapse, the film shows how survivors manage to set up a relatively safe refuge.

After the TSJ virus outbreak, the Canary Islands became one of the safe protected areas in Europe, but isolation creates other problems. A refuge requires supplies to remain functional, and when the available supplies begin to dwindle, the only option is to return to previously devastated areas to look for supplies.

This necessity becomes the focus of the film.

Roberto Joins The Supply Mission With Questionable Intentions

Roberto is one of the principal characters in the sequel and is played by Carlos Alcaide.

The uncertainty that Roberto creates within the group is instant.

Prime suspects and threats are no longer just among the infected, but among the living as well.

Roberto provides an inner source of anxiety and uncertainty.

Psychological warfare like this encourages the survivors to question their own judgment about whom they can trust.

Roberto becomes especially important as a source of anxiety and uncertainty before the mission can even reach its final goal.

Familiar and New Characters Abound

The second film of the franchise includes an abundance of new and old characters.

Julia Martinez, José María Yazpik, Mónica López, Tamara Casellas, and Berta Vázquez, join returning cast member Carlos Alcaide, to round out the principal cast. Yazpik reprised his role as Pritchenko, and Vázquez reprised her role as Lucía.

Axel Medrano, Pedro Hernández, Javier Godino, and Ujin Moreno also join the sequel, as well as Mario Mayo. Even Lúculo, the cat that is familiar to the franchise, is back with the new addition of Pedrito.

The larger cast is a good indication of the larger scope of the second film.

New World focuses on communities, group dynamics and interpersonal conflicts rather than individual survival, as previously shown in the first movie.

For those using movie box application to find information, this change in structure is very obvious when comparing the first and second movies.

The Scale of Things Changes

The exploration mission changes things for the characters. The safety of the islands is no longer relative.

The mission will take them to a Spain that has been utterly devastated by the virus.

Screamfest describes the team as being caught in between two populations, divided by loyalty and attempting to finish their mission.

As the first movie asks what happens when an individual is forced to leave the safety of the group to go back to the 'remains of civilization' to gather supplies, the second movie asks what happens to a group when they are forced to leave the safety of the island to go to the mainland, and become exposed to the forces of nature and society once again.

Not returning to the safety of the island means that the group would have to risk depriving themselves of supplies, and face starvation.

Survival for the community is valued over the individuals sent to protect the community.

According to Screamfest, the runtime for the film is 1 hour and 36 minutes, so it is relatively short compared to other genre features.

The film will have its festival run this month, with a stop at Sitges on October 10, and its U.S. premiere at Screamfest on October 13.

Amazon Studios says Apocalypse Z: New World will launch worldwide on Prime Video on October 30, 2026. The release will be available in more than 240 countries and territories.

The official date confirms some third-party listings that have the film slated for an October 31 release.

The film begins with the protagonists occupying what is presumably a secure refuge, but then quickly shows that surviving a post-apocalyptic world means more than finding a secure refuge.

Beyond the scope of reaching the mainland is the question of what the protagonists are willing to risk and endure to protect the people on the offshore islands, and whether it is worth sacrificing their values to ensure people survive.

This larger question proves that Apocalypse Z: New World can be a compelling entry to expand the franchise. Survival and human relationships remain the focal point.
